Statement from Senator Bonacic on the Parole of Cop Killer Herman Bell
March 16, 2018
(Albany, NY)- “I was absolutely shocked to learn of the New York State Parole Board’s shameful decision to grant parole to cop-killer and domestic terrorist, Herman Bell. In 1971, Herman Bell callously assassinated two NYPD officers simply because they were cops. In a day when law-enforcement officers from around the country are being targeted, this decision sends the absolute wrong message.”
“I am calling on the Governor to remove members, Otis Cruse and Carol Shapiro, of the Parole Board who callously voted to allow this murderer, who has never expressed one bit of remorse, back into civilian life. These two members of Parole Board ignored the future safety concerns of the community, and the voices of the families of the victims and that is disgraceful. We must stand-up for the men and women in blue, and their families, and let them know that we have their back. This decision did not do that”
