Senator Serrano Fights for Reproductive Rights
July 9, 2018
On July 9, 2018, Senator Serrano stood with Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to announce new actions to protect women’s rights as the federal government threatens to roll back advancements in reproductive health care. Through regulations by the Department of Financial Services and Department of Health, New York State will require that an insurer cover over-the-counter emergency contraception and all other contraceptive drugs, devices or products for women approved by the Federal Food and Drug Administration. This includes the dispensing of 12 months of contraceptives at one time, all without co-insurance, co-pays or deductibles. The Senator was also proud to join his Democratic colleagues in calling on Senate Republicans to reconvene in Albany this summer to vote on codifying the protections of Roe. v. Wade into State law.
“As a co-sponsor of the New York State Reproductive Health Act and the Comprehensive Contraception Coverage Act, I believe it’s more important than ever that we take action to protect a woman's right to reproductive health options.”
