On June 28, 2018, Senator Serrano joined his fellow Roosevelt Island elected officials for a Town Hall hosted by Council Member Ben Kallos. Residents expressed concerns about various issues including affordable housing and submetering. Senator Serrano is the sponsor of a bill (S3448), which would require a rent reduction equal to the amount of the additional charge for the utilities for tenants in buildings that convert to submetering. The Senator is also sponsoring a bill (S3109) which would require appointments to the board of the Roosevelt Island Operating Corporation (RIOC) to be more reflective of the Roosevelt Island community.
“I’m always grateful for the opportunity to hear directly from my constituents on the issues of most importance to them. I am proud to represent Roosevelt Island in the State Senate, and look forward to continue working with my colleagues on all of the matters raised.”
