Sen. Robach Calls on NYSDOT to Reconsider Removing Flagpoles on I-490
July 16, 2018
This morning, Senator Joe Robach called on the New York State Department of Transportation to reconsider their decision to remove the flag poles from I-490.
In correspondence to the Regional Director, Sen. Robach stated:
I have heard from countless area veterans, law enforcement officers and residents regarding their displeasure with New York State Department of Transportation’s decision to remove the American Flags and flag poles from the I-490 median. I am writing today to express our collective concern with this decision and am requesting that NYSDOT reconsider this decision. I have been proud to help replace this flag in the past with assistance from the Veterans Outreach Center and the advocacy of local veterans. I would have been willing to assist again in the future or to look at other avenues for regularly maintaining the pole and the flag. This decision sends the wrong message to the men and women who have sacrificed their lives serving our country. The New York American Legion Convention is being held in Rochester starting on Thursday, July 19, 2018; replacing the flag before this convention would be appreciated.
