SENATOR JOE ROBACH HONORS COLONEL HECTOR ALVARDO WITH INDUCTION INTO NEW YORK STATE SENATE VETERANS HALL OF FAME

State Senator Joe Robach is proud to announce the induction of Colonel Hector Alvarado, an active member in the Rochester veteran community, to the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame on Tuesday, May 15th. This honor is designed to pay tribute to New Yorkers whose gallantry in the U.S. Armed Forces is complimented by their service to the community and their accomplishments as a civilian.
“The New York State Senate Veteran’s Hall of Fame gives special recognition to distinguished individuals as a way to express our deep gratitude and admiration” said Senator Robach. “I have known Hector Alvarado for many years; his dedication and love for his nation, his comrades and his community speaks for itself. He is certainly most deserving of this great honor.”
Hector Alvarado was born and raised in in a small village in the mountains of Cayey, Puerto Rico. After graduating from high school, Hector began a career as a public servant by joining the Puerto State Police as a Cadet. At the age of nineteen, he became the youngest Law Enforcement Officer in the Department. In 1974, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant.
Hector has served our country in several and honorable capacities. He proudly served in the US Army Active Duty, The National Guard and US Army Reserves. Hector also served in the Multinational Security Transition Command in Iraq in Global War on Terrorism during Operation Iraqi Freedom II. In 2006, the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) awarded Hector with the “Excellence in Military Service Award”.
In recognition for his service and dedication to the country and his community, Hector has received eighteen awards and decorations, including the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Combat Action Badge and Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal.
Hector Alvarado is continually seeking ways to be active in the local community and give back. Hector volunteers in many local veteran organizations and works as a Probation Officer for Monroe County. Hector and his wife Helen have been married for over 35 years and have one child together.
Hector Alvarado was inducted into the New York State Veteran’s Hall of Fame during a ceremony on Tuesday, May 15th in the Legislative Office Building. Each honoree’s photograph and biography will become part of a special on-line exhibit proclaiming the contributions of these exemplary New York Veterans.
