(Albany, NY) Senator Roxanne J. Persaud sponsored a bill to addresses the use of another's electronic signature without consent.
Today (6/4/18), The New York State Senate passed Senate Bill S1199A: Every day, New Yorkers use electronic signatures to sign documents that are legally binding in the same manner as a hand-written signature. Whether it is in the line of business or for personal matters, society has become dependent on electronic documents. In order to conduct business or facilitate personal matters, an individual may produce an electronic signature with the intention that it will be used just once, and solely for the purpose, it was intended.
“We must put measures in place to protect the hardworking people in the state. The security and privacy of New Yorkers is a top priority. Breaches of security affect everyone. If we are to do business with confidence, then it is imperative that we protect internet users by limiting the dangers associated with fraud ." Senator Persaud said.
