(Brooklyn, New York) Senator Roxanne J. Persaud is focusing her efforts to ensure that constituents receive vital information and services to improve the overall well-being of the community. Very often resources remain unused because people are unsure of how to access them.
“There are many reasons why people lack pertinent information and access to basic services they need. A better understanding of the different services available and how to reach them can improve their quality of life and help them to remain empowered.” Senator Persaud said
This week (September 16 to 21), Senator Persaud sponsored two major events in the district; the first was a Homeowners and Tenants Enrollment Event and the second was an SD-19 Mobile Office.
SD-19 Mobile Office: On Thursday, September 20, 2018, Senator Persaud partnered with NHS Brooklyn and the office of New York State Comptroller -Thomas P. DiNapoli to bring vital resources to the East New York community on Thursday, October 20th at the Sabaoth Group. The mobile office offered constituent services as well as resources from other city and state agencies. The constituents received information about other upcoming events and took advantage of the opportunity to sign up for much-needed services.
Homeowners and Tenants Enrollment Event: on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, Senator Persaud in partnership with the NYC Department of Finance hosted a Homeowners and Tenants Enrollment Event at the Canarsie Library. The event provided an opportunity for homeowners to apply for tax exemptions to lower their property tax bill. Tenants who are seniors, as well as people with disabilities had the opportunity to apply for Senior Citizen Rent Increase Exemption (SCRIE) or Disability Rent Increase Exemption (DRIE).
Participants who had previously registered for the appointment met with staff from the Department of Finance who guided them through the process of enrollment. Despite the inclement weather, many constituents took advantage of this opportunity.
Senator Persaud has arranged to again, offer constituent services at a Mobile Office on October 23, 2018, at the Sheepshead Bay Library.
