Dear Friend:
This past week, I was appointed Chair of the State Senate Education Committee. I am grateful to State Senate Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for placing her confidence in me, and I look forward to working with my colleagues and the Governor's office to ensure all public schools have the policies and resources they need to provide a quality education regardless of their zip code. Read more about this development in the section below.
On December 11th, S.8977/A.8401-C was delivered to the Governor for his signature. If signed, the bill would create a Sexual Assault Victim Bill of Rights. I was a co-sponsor of the bill in the Assembly, and voted in favor of the bill once I joined the State Senate. Read more about the bill in the section below.
Thank you to the over 150 people who attended my Holiday Open House on Thursday, December 13th. I had a wonderful time catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. Click here to see photos from the event.
As always, if we can help you with an issue, please don't hesitate to reach out to my office at 914-934-5250 or smayer@nysenate.gov.
Warm regards,
Shelley B. Mayer
