July 15th Community Update from Senator Shelley Mayer
July 15, 2018
Dear Friend:
This was another busy week. On Tuesday, July 10th, I was proud to stand with Governor Andrew Cuomo and many of my colleagues in government as we called on the Senate Republican Majority to return to Albany and pass the Reproductive Health Act. For many years, those of us who support this bill were rebuffed, with opponents claiming there was no reason to codify Roe v. Wade into New York Law. In the face of a potentially hostile Supreme Court appointment, that is no longer the case.
On the legislative front, as a strong supporter of new, young people entering the political process, I am excited to announce that I am sponsoring a bill that will provide additional options for mothers and fathers seeking elected office. S.9130/A10764 would expressly allow candidates to use campaign funds for childcare expenses incurred as a direct result of the person's candidacy. Read more about this bill in the section below.
I continue to be present throughout the district with activities and meetings. In the next few days, I have several upcoming public events that might be of interest to you:
- Monday, July 16th: Story Time with Princess Presto and Super WHY! at the New Rochelle Public Library (10:00 AM), White Plains Public Library (2:00 PM), and Armonk Public Library (3:30 PM).
- Tuesday, July 17th: How to Avoid Getting Scammed: A Guide for Seniors with Assistant Attorney General Gary Brown at the Tuckahoe Senior Center, 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM.
