July 7th Community Update from Senator Shelley Mayer
July 7, 2018
Dear Friend:
I hope you had a safe and happy July 4th holiday. Over 240 years ago, our great country was founded. We have continued to strive to achieve the ideals on which it was based and have so very much to be proud of, while we clearly have more work to do. I was glad to be able to join in so many wonderful July 4th celebrations throughout the district.
In the face of the very disturbing federal policy on separating families at our border, on Tuesday, July 3rd, I was fortunate to be able to join my colleagues in government on a tour of Rising Ground, formerly Leake & Watts, which is housing children separated from their parents at the border as well as other unaccompanied minors. Read more about this visit in the section below.
An important bill that I co-sponsored which would help reduce the risk of opioid use is now on the Governor's desk, having passed both houses of the Legislature and now awaiting signature. Read more about S.9100/A.9576-B in the section to follow.
Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have a problem, or let me know if there is an event in your neighborhood you think I should attend.
I'm honored to be able to serve as your State Senator.
Warm regards,
Shelley B. Mayer
