June 28th Community Update from Senator Shelley Mayer

Dear Friend:

In the early morning hours of Thursday, June 21st, the State Legislature concluded the 2018 legislative session. We were unable to come to an agreement on a number of issues important to the residents in the 37th Senate District, but I was able to pass legislation critical to the fiscal health of municipalities in my district including the Cities of Rye, New Rochelle, and Yonkers; the Village of Mamaroneck; and the Town of Bedford. Read more about these bills below.

Yesterday, I stood with Governor Andrew Cuomo as he signed S.6217A/A7899-A into law. I was proud to support this bill, which allows for the appointment of Standby Guardians for parents in the event of an administrative separation in connection with a federal immigration matter. S.6217A is an important step forward in providing stability in a child's life and peace of mind to a parent who may be in the midst of difficult immigration proceedings. Learn more about Standby Guardianship further on in the e-newsletter.

With the conclusion of the legislative session, I have hosted multiple community events and participated in and attended many others. In the last section of the e-newsletter, you can look through just a few photos from these events.

Please join me on Saturday, July 14th for a Town Hall at the Eastchester Public Library at 10:00 AM with Westchester County Legislator Damon Maher. To stay up-to-date on my upcoming events, you can always look at my Event Calendar on the State Senate website by clicking here.

Warm regards,

Shelley B. Mayer
