O’Mara and Palmesano: Final weekend of voting to designate the Finger Lakes as America's ‘Best Wine Region’

Area residents know the beauty and the value of the Finger Lakes wine region, but here’s a chance to let the nation know it.

Elmira, N.Y., August 16—Entering the final weekend of voting, State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) and Assemblyman Phil Palmesano (R,C,I-Corning)  reminded area residents to keep voting every day for the Finger Lakes in USA Today’s 10 Best online Readers’ Choice competition to decide America’s “Best Wine Region.”

The area legislators stressed that anyone can vote once a day, every day, on every Internet-capable device they have until the contest closes on Monday, August 20, at noon.

In a joint statement, O’Mara and Palmesano said, “Area residents know the beauty and the value of the Finger Lakes wine region, but here’s a chance to let the nation know it.  It’s another outstanding opportunity to keep the Finger Lakes region on the national map and to show our pride in Finger Lakes wine country as a leading destination for visitors from around the globe, an absolute foundation of our leading tourism industry, and a cornerstone of our local culture and economy."

The local legislators have long singled out the Finger Lakes wine region for its unique contributions centered on 140 wineries and tasting rooms, four wine trails, more than 9,300 acres of vineyards, and 54,600 tons of grape production.
