O’Mara co-sponsoring Preservation League of NYS forum in Bath: ‘Road Map to Preservation’ presentation on Monday provides insights on the value of historic preservation to community and economic development

Bath, N.Y., October 29—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) is co-sponsoring a public forum being presented by the Preservation League of New York State (PLNYS) in Bath on Monday, October 29.

The PLNYS “Road Map to Preservation” presentation is open to homeowners, commercial property owners, realtors, contractors, architects, non-profit, and community leaders interested in learning how preservation plays a key role in economic development, job creation, community revitalization, and smart, sustainable growth.

“The Preservation League of New York State does outstanding work to help strengthen communities throughout our region and across the state,” said O’Mara.  “This forum promises to be interesting and informative, and I hope that homeowners, not-for-profits, business owners, and many others will take advantage of the chance to learn more about the benefits and opportunities of historic preservation.”

“The League is the statewide clearinghouse for the latest information, training, and techniques that illustrate the role preservation plays in making our communities better places to live and work,” said PLNYS President Jay DiLorenzo. “We’re pleased to have been invited to Steuben County to discuss programs that can help homeowners provide safer and healthier homes for their families, support nonprofit organizations’ efforts to enhance local cultural resources, and help business owners protect their commercial investments for years to come.”

The PLNYS forum will hold the forum on the benefits of historic preservation on Monday, October 29 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Dormann Library (Empire Room), 101 West Morris Street in Bath.  The program is made possible with support from the Community Foundation of Elmira-Corning and the Finger Lakes, Inc.,  and the Corning Incorporated Foundation.  In addition to O’Mara, sponsors include the office of the Steuben County Historian, the Bath Historic Commission, the Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance, and Elise Johnson-Schmidt Architects.

The cost for the program is $10.

PLNYS will outline the benefits of historic preservation with a focus on community revitalization through use of historic preservation incentives.  Property owners can find out if they are eligible for tax credits for repairs they make on their historic buildings, and municipal and non-profit leaders can learn about the League’s grant programs.  The League will share success stories from historic districts around the state.
