O'Mara joins colleagues and other Finger Lakes leaders to express opposition to incinerator project

Albany, N.Y., May 15--State Senator Tom O'Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats), Chair of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee, today joined Senator Pam Helming, Assembly Minority Leader Brian Kolb, Assemblyman Palmesano, reprensentatives of the Finger Lakes Wine Business Coalition and Seneca Lake Guardian, and other Finger Lakes leaders to voice their opposition to the proposed Trash Incinerator in the town of Romulus.

O'Mara said, "I appreciate the opportunity to sponsor this legislation with Senator Helming and join her in the fight to ensure that our local decision makers are given the authority they should rightfully have on proposals and projects like this one.”

The group also welcomed today's statement from Governor Andrew Cuomo, part of which read, "Importing and burning municipal solid waste in one of the State's most environmentally sensitive areas is simply not appropriate. I'm confident that the Article 10 siting board will carefully consider these impacts and reject the project application if one is ever filed."  Read the governor's full statement HERE.
