Senator Montgomery joined constituents, members of Community Board 6 and community stakeholders at the Gowanus Neighborhood Planning Study Framework Open House to learn more New York City's Department of City Planning proposal to rezone Gowanus. The agency recently released “Gowanus: A Framework for a Sustainable, Inclusive, Mixed-Use Neighborhood” study which details the rezoning framework around issues of “Sustainability and Resiliency,” “Environmental Remediation,” “Community and Cultural Resources,” “Housing,” “Economic and Job Development,” “Transportation” and “Land Use and Urban Form.
Gowanus is a neighborhood with a diverse mix of residents, workers and businesses – a community that has overcome challenges while being a center for entrepreneurship, innovation and creative expression. It is surrounded by the thriving residential neighborhoods of Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill and Park Slope, and is within walking distance of Downtown Brooklyn, a growing and emerging Central Business District.
The rezoning will have a tremendous impact on the Gowanus community. Senator Montgomery encourages all her constituents to learn more about the proposal and to remain engaged as the planning process moves forward. Community members are also encouraged to go online to post comments, ideas, and feedback at plangowanus.com.
