Combating the Opioid Crisis in the Bronx
December 16, 2019
On December 16th, Senator Serrano joined Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr., his colleagues in government, and more than 20 service providers for a roundtable discussion on combating the opioid crisis. In 2018 the Hunts Point and Mott Haven sections of the South Bronx had overdose rates more than twice the citywide average.
"The opioid crisis has impacted families across the country, and has disproportionately affected communities in the Bronx. Forums like this one are necessary in order to devise solutions and connect at-risk New Yorkers and their families with the support they need to lead fulfilling, healthy lives. Many thanks to Borough President Diaz for organizing this in-depth discussion, and I look forward to working together on a comprehensive and coordinated response to this urgent public health issue."
