On October 26, Senator Serrano received the Outstanding Arts Advocate Award from the New York State Art Teachers Association (NYSATA) and the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) at the Artworks 2019 Conference. Artworks is an arts education conference that brings together art teachers and administrators from across New York City for a day-long series of workshops and exhibits.
Senator Serrano was presented with the Outstanding Arts Advocate Award for his leadership on arts education issues in the New York State Legislature and throughout his career in government.
"Arts education has lifelong benefits that impact students long after they've left the classroom. Access to arts programming has been linked to higher GPAs and higher college enrollment. I look forward to continuing my advocacy for the arts and culture, and to ensure that every child in New York has access to arts education."
