Senator Kevin Thomas Honors Veterans on National Purple Heart Day
August 7, 2019
(Levittown, NY) — Senator Kevin Thomas honored three local Purple Heart veterans in commemoration of National Purple Heart Day, which is observed on August 7 each year.
Staff Sergeant John C. Gonzalez of Bellmore, Staff Sergeant Arthur Tripp, and Sergeant Peter C. Brock of Wantagh are members of Levittown American Legion Post 1711 who were awarded the Purple Heart Medal after sustaining wounds in combat during their service in Vietnam.
Senator Thomas issued a resolution earlier this year memorializing Governor Andrew Cuomo to officially proclaim August 7, 2019 as Purple Heart Day in the State of New York.
“On Purple Heart Day, we pause as a nation to reflect on the tremendous sacrifices made by our service members,” said Senator Thomas. “The Purple Heart is one of our nation’s most important honors. It represents the incredible sacrifice and commitment of our combat-wounded veterans. I am honored to recognize these veterans, who served our country honorably during the Vietnam War, on this symbolic day.”
