Senator Persaud's Highlights From February 2019

On Feb. 1, Senator Persaud visited P.S. 312 and read to the children for World Read Aloud Day; she also met with administrators and elected officials at Brooklyn Collegiate Preparatory High School to discuss the school's future. On Feb. 5, the Senate adopted a resolution recognizing the 2019 Lunar New Year, which Senator Persaud co-sponsored; she also honored and congratulated new and old ranking members of Community Board 18 at their Torch Passing Ceremony. On Feb. 8, Senator Persaud completed CUNYISLG's 2018 Lindsay Fellowship; and, she met with Broadway Stages to discuss plans for a film studio in the District. On Feb. 11, Senator Persaud met with the New York Caring Majority and Senator Kavanagh in support of the New York Health Act, which recently included improvements on long-term care. On Feb. 13, Senator Persaud met with students from Long Island University to discuss a bill relating to their major, occupational therapy; also, she received a visit from Minister Beate Hartinger-Klein from the Austrian Federal Ministry of Labor and Dr. Helmut Böck, Consul General of Austria to talk about social policies and their impact. During the New York State Association of Black and Puerto Rican Legislators's 48th Annual Legislative Conference from Feb. 15 to 17, Senator Persaud lead her own workshop on the impact of timeliness on youth in foster care, personally met with Majority Leader Stewart-Cousins and other elected officials, appeared on stage at one of the galas and even rented a bus with Assemblymember Williams to bring constituents from both of their Districts from Canarsie all the way to Albany for the day (at no cost) so they may enjoy part of the experience as well.
