There’s simply no denying its importance: the impact of invasive species can be costly economically, and devastating to environmental quality across the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions, and statewide.
Throughout the week of February 25 to March 3, America observes “National Invasive Species Awareness Week” (NISAW).
From the longstanding battle to control the spread of Eurasian Water Milfoil (EWM) in Waneta and Lamoka Lakes in Schuyler and Steuben counties, to the invasion of Hydrilla in the Cayuga Lake Inlet in Tompkins County, our waterway-filled landscape is no stranger to these threats.
But the overall danger of invasive species represents much more than just a fight against aggressive aquatic invaders. And that’s the point of this week's observance.
Senator O'Mara has spearheaded efforts to further combat invasive species throughout the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier regions, and across New York State. Read more on some of Senator O'Mara's efforts HERE, HERE and HERE, HERE and HERE.
