Albany, N.Y., October 31—State Senator Tom O’Mara (R,C,I-Big Flats) today continued to criticize the state Senate’s extreme liberal downstate Democrat leadership for their efforts to “radically redefine the idea of criminal justice in New York State.”
O’Mara blasted proposed legislation (S6821), introduced in the Senate on Wednesday by extreme liberal downstate Senator Kevin Parker, a Democrat from Brooklyn, calling for the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision (DOCCS), together with state and local boards of election, to establish a voter registration and voting process for inmates in correctional facilities, including felons.
“Where in the name of justice are New York Democrats headed? Governor Cuomo’s Parole Board has been releasing cop killers, murderers, and other violent felons all year long. Democrat senators are pushing legislation to grant parole hearings to dangerous inmates sentenced to life without parole, and to let felons to sit on juries. Now the Senate Democrats want state taxpayers to foot the bill to set up voter registration programs in state prisons,” said O’Mara. “Welcome to Halloween in New York State government under one-party control. It’s a nightmare. It is a dangerous and disturbing trend of over rolling over backwards for criminals to radically redefine criminal justice in New York State at the expense of victims and their families and loved ones, communities and neighborhoods, and taxpayers.”
