Senator Montgomery advances The Scar Act out of the Children and Families Committee

COMMITTEE:
- Children and Families
Senator Montgomery was joined by Bill Sponsor Senator Brian Benjamin (D-Harlem), Senator Roxanne Persaud (D-Brooklyn) and the New York Junior League in celebrating the advancement of the Scar Act.
The Scar Act is an important legislation that would mandate the Office of Children and Family Services to report to the Legislature various data, pertaining to the number of unaccompanied minors that are taken from the Texas-Mexico border and placed in Centers across New York State.
This legislation is crucial as it provides for accountability on behalf of New York State as the Trump Administration countinues its zero-tolerance anti-immigration policies. As these young people are thrusted into centers across the nation without any family or kin, the Scar Act is a much needed step in the right direction of making sure these minors are accounted for and provided adequate services.
