Senator Montgomery and other Brooklyn elected officials celebrate the opening of Wegmans Food Market's first New York City location in Brooklyn. Wegmans is a large scale supermarket with over a dozen departments that hold a wide array of products from across the globe.
Wegmans is a family-owned company, founded in 1916, headquartered in Rochester, NY. Wegmans operates 99 supermarkets throughout New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Maryland. It is one of the largest private companies in the U.S.
Their first New York City store is located at 21 Flushing Ave, part of the Brooklyn Navy Yard and employs over 500 people. Located directly across the street from the Farragut Houses, Ingersoll Houses and Walt Whitman Houses, residents will now have access to a high quality, affordable supermarket.
