Dear Friends,
Thank you for re-electing me as your NYS Senator in the 35th District. It is an honor and a privilege to serve you. Voters came out in record numbers on Election Day. I am pleased that the legislation we passed to implement early voting enabled 152,000 people in Westchester to vote in advance and more than 2.5 million people statewide.
Now that the elections are over, there is hope of another federal stimulus package, which is necessary to aid our State and our residents who are facing financial hardship. I am focused on delivering critical resources and investment to Westchester County and continue to work with my colleagues in government to ensure relief comes to New York.
Turning to the challenge at hand, we must not let our guard down against COVID-19. Governor Cuomo announced new yellow zones in the 35th district, including parts of Yonkers, Tarrytown and New Rochelle. This means new precautionary measures have been put in place, which impact schools, businesses and places of worship. Please review the maps below or click here for more information.

With Thanksgiving right around the corner, I know it is difficult to not be with loved ones. However, it is more important that we keep them safe, and follow the directives to limit group gatherings to no more than ten people. These decisions are not made lightly; they are meant to save lives. We can all do our part by continuing to wear a mask, social distance, wash hands frequently, and avoid unnecessary travel. Celebrate with your immediate family.
As always, please feel free to email me at scousins@nysenate.gov or call my office at (914) 423-4031, if you have any questions or issues of concern.
Until next time,
Andrea Stewart-Cousins
New York State Senator, District 35
President Pro Tem, Majority Leader
The State has several COVID-19 testing sites in Westchester. To book an appointment, please call the COVID-19 hotline at 888-364-3065. Additionally, antibody tests are available through Westchester Medical Center, click here.
The Governor has ordered the closure of bars, restaurants, gyms, and liquor stores for in-person service from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. daily. Restaurants can provide orders for pick-up and delivery after 10:00 p.m., but are not permitted to serve alcohol to go.
RECOGNIZING OUR VETERANS
On Veterans Day, I was in Yonkers and Greenburgh to thank the men and women who have served our country, recognizing their courage, sacrifice, and bravery.
I also inducted Yonkers veteran Sergeant Ruby Carlisle-Thomas into the NYS Senate Veterans’ Hall of Fame. To learn more about this honor and Sgt. Carlisle-Thomas’ service, please click here.
STATE FUNDING SECURED FOR NEW AMBULANCE
In October, we recognized National First Responders Day by unveiling a new ambulance for the Ardsley-Secor Volunteer Ambulance Corps (ASVAC).
The ambulance was secured with State funding and will aid volunteer members in responding to emergencies more safely and quickly throughout the village and neighboring areas.
Our volunteer EMS and fire firefighters are selflessly serving our communities, and we thank them.
BLACK LIVES MATTER MURAL
Outside of City Hall in Yonkers, you may have noticed a new mural recognizing that Black Lives Matter.
Yonkers Arts worked with community leaders, elected officials and volunteers to make the mural a reality on South Broadway between Prospect and Hudson Streets.
I was pleased to join Mayor Mike Spano and others for its unveiling.
NEW SCHOOL PLAYGROUND IN YONKERS
The Yonkers Early Childhood Academy and Cross Hill Academy now have a new state of the art, accessible playground.
Working with my colleagues in the NYS Senate, we secured the funding for the Yonkers Public schools to help make the project a reality.
Once we get back to normal, the new playground will offer children a safe, open space to play and socialize with their classmates.
HONORING HEROISM
It was my pleasure to recognize several Yonkers Police officers, including, Paul Samoyedny and Good Samaritan Zacarius Green for helping save an FBI agent’s life in Getty’s Square on September 25th.
Both Officer Samoyedny and Mr. Green helped stop a man with a gun after police say he fired at the FBI agent.
Thankfully, no one was hurt because of their actions. A NYS Senate proclamation recognizing their heroism was presented.
