In the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, Senator David Carlucci (D-Rockland/Westchester) has organized an informational Teleconference Town Hall for Hudson Valley residents to have their most pressing questions about the virus answered over a live call in number. Carlucci enlisted the help of Crystal Run Healthcare and the Mental Health Association of Rockland County to field questions from the public on on Wednesday, March 11th at 6:00 p.m.
Senator David Carlucci said, “There is a lot of misinformation out there about the coronavirus, and we are trying to connect residents with the experts. We see people buying up hand sanitizer and masks, and we need to be educating residents about what is going on, prevention, who is at greatest risk, and how to recognize the symptoms. We also need to address the stress of dealing with this outbreak, and how to keep our children and family around us calm. I thank our terrific community partners in this effort, Crystal Run Healthcare and the Mental Health Association of Rockland County.”
Crystal Run Healthcare will have Infectious Disease Specialist, Dr. Arturo G. Pascual, Jr. leading the conversation and fielding questions on the origin of the coronavirus, how it spreads, how to protect yourself, and what to do you if you suspect you are infected.
Dr. Gregory A. Spencer, FACP, Chief Medical Officer & Chief Medical Information Officer, Crystal Run Healthcare, said, “Crystal Run Healthcare takes the health and safety of our patients, staff and community very seriously. As we continue to monitor the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19) in New York, we feel it is important to keep the public informed on what measures are in place to protect our patients and community. Since news of the COVID-19 outbreak, Crystal Run Healthcare has been working hard internally and actively coordinating externally with local hospitals and public health departments to help make sure there is a concerted effort in the communities we serve. We are pleased to be working with Senator Carlucci to keep the residents of Rockland County informed.”
Additionally, Senator Carlucci felt it important for experts with the Mental Health Association of Rockland County to go over with residents how to cope with stress related to the virus and talking with children about it. Development Director Velvet Reda and social worker and Community Outreach Director, Brandon Beachamp will also be apart of the event and answer questions.
Stephanie Madison, Mental Health Association of Rockland County, President and CEO, said, “Coronavirus-related anxiety is an understandable response to the unknown. A natural reaction is to seek out more information in attempt to find a solution, which can fuel anxiety. Limiting media exposure, following universal precautions, communicating with children in an age appropriate way and maintaining social networks are positive ways to help manage through the stress."
