Dear Friends,
We have received many questions about testing. I am making every effort to increase testing in Rockland and Westchester Counties. NYS is administering about 30,000 tests a day and will be ramping up this effort. The State Testing Centers have specific criteria for who can be tested so please see the "Protocal For Testing" for more information.
You can take an online assessment to see if you meet the testing criteria. All State locations require an appointment through the State Department of Health 24 hour hotline:1-888-364-3065.
We now have new State testing center, which offers walk-in appointments in Haverstraw so Rockland residents who may not have a car can access testing. Haverstraw had some of the highest rates of infection in Rockland County. We additionally, have a State testing site at Harriman State Park's Anthony Wayne Recreation Area in Stony Point. I will continue to advocate for a testing center in Spring Valley where the infection rate is high.
In Westchester County, we now have State testing sites in New Rochelle, Yonkers, and Mount Vernon. Residents in Ossining can call the State 24-hour hotline: 1-888-364-3065 to inquire about an appointment at the New Rochelle drive through testing site at Glen Island Park. County Executive Latimer's office is working with the State to begin antibody testing for first responders and essential workers at the Westchester County Center in White Plains.
There are also providers in Rockland and Westchester working to bridge current testing gaps. My office has worked diligently to compile a list. Many of these providers do not require residency.
However, while providers are required under the law to provide testing for free, there could be hidden fees, like a charge for an "office visit" or for a telehealth visit so it is VERY important that you call ahead to find out their policy, verify they take your insurance, and discuss with your insurance if there are any co-pays. Private providers may have different criteria than the State for who they will test, and it's always best to consult your doctor. Additionally, in recent days there has been discussion about the accuracy of anti-body testing, you can find more information here: https://www.cnn.com/2020/04/28/health/coronavirus-antibody-tests-terrible/index.html.
