Honoring Veterans Day & All Who Serve

Dear Friends:

On behalf of our community and Nation, thank you to our Veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. 

Through the generations, members of the armed service have risen in defense of American values. On Veterans Day, we pay respect and acknowledge them and their family’s contributions while being mindful that we can never fully repay them for their service. 

On this Veterans Day, I'd like to spotlight a distinguished person from the 37th Senate District, Colonel Mary Westmoreland. A resident of Bronxville, Colonel Westmoreland is my nominee for the 2020 New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame. She and her family have a long and distinguished history of service to our country. You can read more about Colonel Westmoreland in the section below.

NYS SENATE VETERANS HALL OF FAME:
Colonel Mary Westmoreland

It is my honor to name Colonel Mary Westmoreland as my nominee to the NYS Senate Veterans Hall of Fame. Colonel Westmoreland is a decorated combat veteran, a native New Yorker, and a resident of the Village of Bronxville.

Colonel Westmoreland served in two Military Services, the US Coast Guard and US Army, both on active and reserve duty. Currently, Colonel Westmoreland serves as the Department of Defense Employer Support to Guard and Reserve NYC Area Chair. She also serves as the NY State Vice Chair for the Department of Defense ESGR Program. Colonel Westmoreland is President of the Association of US Army Greater NY Statue of Liberty Chapter, an active member of the Board of Directors of the Navy League NY Council, and proud member of various Veterans support organizations in the Lower Hudson Valley.  

Colonel Westmoreland retired in the rank of Colonel from her military career after 31.5 years of Active Military Service on October 8, 2008 having begun her military service as an enlisted member. Amongst her commitments during her retirement, Colonel Westmoreland served in the capacity of non-partisan appointee on the National Advisory Committee on Women Veterans to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, Washington DC, for five years and served as its Chairwoman for the last two years.  

Colonel Westmoreland is married to an Air Force veteran and is also the proud mother of two adult children who are both Army Veterans & a son-in-law who is a recent Air Force retiree--all with a multitude of deployments amongst them. Our community is deeply indebted to Colonel Westmoreland and her family for their service to our country. On this Veterans Day and everyday--thank you.
