Senator Serrano Joins Governor Hochul to Discuss Second Avenue Subway Expansion and Transportation Equity
November 23, 2021
On November 23, Senator Serrano joined Governor Kathy Hochul, Congressman Adriano Espaillat, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, and other colleagues in government to tour the Second Avenue Subway tunnels and discuss the long-awaited expansion of the line up to 125th Street.
The expansion would be made possible by new federal funds from The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act signed by President Joe Biden. The MTA has submitted a grant request to the U.S. Department of Transportation for Phase 2 of the expansion that will include the construction of three new subway stations, at 106th St, 116th St, and 125th St in East Harlem.
"The much anticipated expansion will improve the lives of thousands East Harlem residents," said Senator Serrano. "I look forward to beginning the next phase of this project as we work to ensure transportation equity in NYC."
