Senator Helming Honors 99-Year-Old Veteran Gene Gerrard

Senator Helming recently presented Gene Gerrard of Canandaigua with a New York State Senate Proclamation on the occasion of his 99th birthday celebration.
“Gene Gerrard is a member of the Greatest Generation who honorably served his country during World War II and then went on to further lead a life of public service. Gene is a past honoree of my Veterans Hall of Fame for the 54th District. Special thanks to the Patriot Guard Riders, Lap Robes for Veterans, and to Gene’s daughter, Pam for hosting this wonderful celebration with Gene’s family and friends,” said Senator Helming.
Gene served in the United States Coast Guard during World War II, where he held rank as 1st Class Quartermaster. For his service, he earned the American Area Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippine Liberation Medal, and the Victory Medal.
