Thanksgiving Day Celebration!
Senator Alexis Weik
November 10, 2022
As Thanksgiving approaches, take the opportunity to reflect and count what you are truly thankful for in your life. This year, I am encouraging students in my district to participate in the New York State Senate’s Thanksgiving Day Celebration by creating a piece of art that exemplifies what qualities they have that they are thankful for.
Students in Kindergarten through 12th grade can electronically submit an original poem, one page essay, or artwork expressing what qualities they have that they are thankful for to my website – weik.nysente.gov. All submissions will be posted on my website and participating students will receive a certificate from myself, thanking them for taking part in the Thanksgiving Day Celebrations. Teachers may also submit students’ artwork to my website. The deadline for entries is Friday, November 18, 2022.
This program gives students the opportunity to reflect on the year, but also look forward to the year ahead. It is important to encourage students to be creative and celebrate their great qualities – whether it’s their kindness and empathy, athletic ability, or getting good grades in school. What are you thankful for this holiday season?
