Today, Democratic Leaders in the Legislature announced their intention to rush forward with partisan redistricting, blatantly disregarding the public’s demand for an independent process. What’s worse is they will do so without the input of thousands of New York citizens and communities that provided input in support of fair, independent maps.
Rather than jam through back room, partisan maps, there should be a ten-day public review of any potential plan that affects New Yorkers’ representation for the next ten years. We have been assured that public input was collected and now it is time to make sure that input is considered.
