Black History Month Honoree

Congratulations to our Black History Month Honoree, Detective Sergeant Andrew Hope!

Detective Sergeant Andrew Hope was born in 1983 in Queens, NY, where his father is an Army veteran, and his grandfather was a member of the New York City Police Department.

He graduated from Uniondale High School and attended SUNY Stony Brook where he earned a degree in Computer Science in 2007. In January 2008 he became a police officer with the NYPD and in January 2010 he was hired by the Hempstead Police Department.

In November 2010 he became a member of the Suffolk County Police Department and was assigned to the First Precinct. Through his hard work he quickly advanced to the Community Support Unit, Anti-Crime Unit, and then the Precinct Crime Section. In January 2019 he was promoted to Detective and assigned to the First Squad. In September 2019 he was promoted to Sergeant and assigned to the Third Precinct.

In July 2021 he was promoted to Detective Sergeant and returned to the First Squad. Detective Sergeant Hope has received three Department Recognition awards and three Command Recognition awards. Detective Sergeant Hope is a kind, intelligent, and hard-working supervisor and constantly strives to bring out the best in himself and everyone he supervises. He currently lives in Suffolk County with his wife and newborn son.
