The Board of Regents oversees education policy for the entire state – and the selection of individuals to serve in this critically important role deserves full openness, accountability and transparency.
The appointments process for Board of Regents candidates is completely flawed. The exclusion of the Senate and not allowing us to fully vet these candidates is offensive. We should have a process that is open to both houses, allowing each individual candidate to be interviewed and thoughtfully considered based on their merits. Instead, our colleagues across the aisle chose to lump the appointments all together for an up or down vote in one resolution.
It’s sad, but not surprising that One-Party rule continues to show no regard for accountability in our state government.
