Statement of Senator Shelley Mayer on War in Israel

“While I was fortunate to be together with my extended family on Saturday night, hundreds of ordinary civilians were murdered by Hamas’ unprovoked attacks on Israelis. Now, on top of those hundreds of innocent people already killed, Hamas holds civilian hostages – including children – and threatens to use them as a shield against Israel’s response. We cannot stand by. 

“We stand in full support of Israel at this moment of peril. As one who has criticized the policies of the Israeli government in the past, now is the time to unite on behalf of Israel, to ensure Israelis know of our support, and to find a way to end this war.  Let us work to bring Americans home; to preserve life; and to fight for peace for this whole region. But make no mistake, we stand by Israel without hesitation.
