Listen to Senator O'Mara's 'Newsmaker' interview on WLEA Radio
May 5, 2023
Senator O'Mara joined WLEA's Brian O'Neil on the "Newsmaker" show Wednesday, May 3rd.
The interview recapped the newly enacted, approximately $230 billion, 2023-2024 New York State budget. Senator O'Mara highlighted concerns over New York's new budget, including its lack of transparency and time for public review. He warned that the nation's first ban on natural gas appliances beginning in 2026 and the impact of other far-reaching clean energy mandates being imposed by Governor Hochul and the Democrat majorities in the State Legislature will deliver enormous costs and consequences to all New Yorkers. He continued to raise alarm over the out-of-control state government spending that continues to define this era in state government and its future impact on state and local taxpayers, local communities, and local economies.
Senator O'Mara also discusses the failure by Albany Democrats to adequately address the state's failed bail reform that has led to ever-increasing crime and violence across the state over the past several years. Also on the crime front, the senator highlights provisions in the budget that will attempt to crack down on the proliferation of so-called "sticker shops" illegally selling marijuana throughout the region and statewide.
