Provide Grieving Families with Hope This Holiday Season
December 20, 2024
This holiday season I am once again appealing to Governor Hochul to sign the Grieving Families Act into law and provide New York families suffering from the loss of loved ones with hope for the new year.
For the third consecutive year, the Grieving Families Act passed both chambers of the State Legislature by wide margins and with overwhelming bipartisan support.
The broad bipartisan support this legislation has garnered is a rarity in today's contentious and hyper-partisan State Legislature and speaks volumes to the importance of this bill for families from every corner of the state.
By signing the Grieving Families Act into law, the Governor will bring New York State’s wrongful death statute into the modern era and on par with the rest of the nation. More importantly, it would provide families who have lost a child or loved one the ability to seek appropriate damages in cases where wrongful death is established.
Governor Hochul, I implore you to do what is in the best interest of New York’s families and sign this critically important legislation into law.
