Senator Rivera Hosts First Health & Safety Fair at Poe Park

This week, Senator Rivera brought together a group of elected officials and harm reduction organizations for his inaugural Health & Safety Fair at Poe Park. The event was organized to foster dialogue about public health and public safety, with a focus on substance use prevention and recovery in  the community.

During the fair, Senator Rivera addressed the community's growing concerns regarding public drug use and syringe litter, particularly around the Kingsbridge Underpass, Poe Park, St. James Park and other nearby hotspots.

Events like this are important because neighbors can connect with local harm reduction providers who are actively working to clean up needles safely, while also connecting individuals in need with essential recovery services and medical care," said Senator Rivera.

This fair was a significant step towards promoting awareness and encouraging community involvement in public health initiatives, as well as highlighting the vital role of harm reduction in fostering a safer environment for all. In addition, Senator Rivera's team has compiled the hours of operation of harm reduction organizations serving the Northwest Bronx. This resource will help residents easily access and connect patrons to assistance for issues related substance use prevention and other holistic services.

Senator Rivera remains committed to addressing these challenges and ensuring that the community has the support it needs.
