Senator Mannion Honors Maureen Berger For Knitting Hats For The Homeless

SYRACUSE, NY – Senator John W. Mannion today recognized Maureen Berger, an 81-year-old resident of Brookdale Manlius, for her remarkable compassion and creativity in knitting 100 hats for the homeless this past holiday season.

Senator John W. Mannion said, “Maureen Berger knows how to contribute to her community and that simple acts of kindness can make a big difference. Her determination to knit and deliver 100 hats for the homeless during the holidays shows how Central New Yorkers help our neighbors in need and show compassion for the less fortunate.”

Despite facing challenges after a stroke, Maureen never lost her desire to contribute to her community.

Using a special adaptive knitting loom, Maureen overcame her physical limitations to create warm hats for those in need. Her dedication and initiative inspired others to join her efforts, and together they delivered their knitted creations to three homeless shelters in the Syracuse area.

Senator Mannion encourages all New Yorkers to follow Maureen’s example and find ways to give back to their communities. Whether it’s volunteering your time, donating to a worthy cause, or simply performing an act of kindness for a neighbor, every little bit counts.
