Statement From Senator Mannion On Governor Hochul’s State Of The State Address
Senator John W. Mannion
January 10, 2024
“The vision outlined by Governor Kathy Hochul in her State of the State Address sets the right tone for a productive legislative session that delivers for all New Yorkers.
I strongly support establishing the flagship ON-RAMP workforce development center in Syracuse, which compliments the region’s tech hub designation and is another return on the Green Chips legislation I helped pass. I’ll be working with CenterState CEO and local partners to establish ON-RAMP and to secure additional funding for workforce training initiatives. Everyone should have access to job training and a path to employment, including for the Micron project in Clay and the broader semiconductor industry.
I applaud the governor for embracing the recommendations of the Upstate Flood Mitigation Task Force. The advanced mapping of the Oswego and Mohawk River Basins will inform real solutions to persistent flooding.
As a longtime teacher and member of the Education Committee, I will be studying, inquiring and offering my expertise on the methods by which reading instruction will be delivered in our classrooms.
I’ll continue to focus on education issues, including the expansion of the free school meals program and universal pre-K.
The governor has been a strong supporter of New Yorkers with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. As Chairman of the Disabilities Committee, I look forward to working across government to strengthen the I/DD workforce while improving and expanding services.
The best way to reverse New York’s population loss is to make communities that are affordable, healthy, and safe with economic opportunity and a quality of life that attracts families and businesses. This is what the governor is proposing, what the Senate Majority has been committed to achieving, and what we are doing in Central New York.”
