Senator Serrano Inducts Hector Montes into NYS Senate Veteran Hall Of Fame
March 21, 2024
Senator Serrano visited the Corsi Older Adult Center in East Harlem to honor our 2023 NYS Senate Veterans Hall of Fame inductee, Hector Montes.
Mr. Montes’s family came to New York City from Puerto Rico and set down roots in the East Harlem neighborhood, where Mr. Montes remains to this day. His military career began in 1966 when he was drafted to serve in the Vietnam War and served in the United States Army as a Medic until 1969.
Upon his return from the war, Mr. Montes continued his path in the medical field by joining the newly opened Dialysis Unit at New York Hospital and spent the remainder of his career caring for innumerable patients as a Dialysis Technician.
Mr. Montes also shares his talents as a volunteer at the Corsi Older Adult Center, teaching fellow seniors how to paint, draw, and play the guitar.
