On Wednesday, July 31st, local elected officials, representatives from the NYPD, and anti-violence organizations: Release the Grip, Guns Down Life Up, and Save Our Streets came together at a Public Safety Forum to bring attention to the rampant gun violence currently affecting the South Bronx neighborhoods of Concourse Village and Melrose. Senator Serrano’s office was proud to co-sponsor this event, which allowed for important discussions to take place regarding the need for improved safety measures such as improved lighting and security cameras to address the frequent acts of violence in these neighborhoods. This meeting was the first in a collaborative effort of these local anti-violence organizations, NYPD, and elected officials to tackle the issue of gun violence in the South Bronx.
