Apply For Senator Brouk's 2024-2025 Youth Mental Health Advisory Board
September 10, 2024
As Chair of the New York State Senate Committee on Mental Health, Senator Brouk is committed to finding innovative ways to ensure our young people have the support and resources they need to thrive. Our office continuously strives to engage young people in the policies and decisions that impact them. That's why we're excited to announce that applications are now open for our second cohort of Senator Brouk's Youth Mental Health Advisory Board.
This fall, high school students will have the opportunity to join their peers in collaborative, solutions-driven discussions. This year, we’re expanding the program to accept students from across Monroe County. Young people deserve to have their voices heard—especially on the issues that matter most to them.
FAQS:
How long will students be expected to participate?
Students will serve one term, from November 2024 until February 2024.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for High School students aged 16 (or will turn 16 during the program) and older, who live in Monroe County, and have a interest in mental health and policy.
Where will the meetings take place?
The Advisory Board will have a blend of in-person and virtual meetings. Members can plan on at least three, hour-long virtual meetings, with the addition of in-person events and smaller group meetings. Dates and times will be announced.
What will meetings look like, and what will be expected at meetings?
Members of the Youth Mental Health Advisory Board should expect to converse, share, and collaborate with the Senator and staff regarding issues related to mental health and the challenges that exist for young people in our community. Meeting structures will vary and will consist of both larger conversations and smaller workgroups.
During your time on the board, you will learn more about the basic structure and duties of the state government, with a emphasis of the Senate, discuss your's and your peer's personal experiences with mental health, research a related topic, and complete a capstone project by the end of the program.
