Community Update: Honoring Vietnam Veterans, Bills Passing, In the Community
Senator Shelley B. Mayer
March 28, 2024
Dear Friends,
Another busy time in Albany as we move towards the adoption of the budget. I continue to lead the fight to restore funding to our public schools, support our hospitals, nursing homes, and home care workers, expand housing production and protect rental tenants, and push for increased funding for our local roads and bridges. There is much more on the budget, but I have sought to have the priorities of our district at the top of my list.
My heart is heavy with the murder of NYC Police Officer Jonathan Diller. It is a dark day when a police officer is killed in the line of duty. I am committed to working with my colleagues and law enforcement to protect all New Yorkers from those who threaten the safety of our police and our communities.
You should know that among other issues I am pushing, I am championing language to provide additional tools to prosecutors when there are multiple petit larcenies by shoplifters. I know this is a dangerous trend that must be confronted. I am hopeful it will make it into the final budget.
If there is anything my office can assist you with, please email me at smayer@nysenate.gov or call (914) 934-5250.
Warm regards,
Shelley B. Mayer
State Senator
37th District
