Driver’s Licenses For Illegal Aliens?
Andrew J Lanza
As your state senator, it is one of my duties to make sure you and your loved ones are as safe and secure as possible. That’s why I find the Governor’s decision to allow illegal aliens to easily obtain drivers licenses so concerning.
It’s been well documented in the media that many of the 9/11 hijackers were able to obtain drivers licenses, making their attack on this country that much easier. Now the Governor of the same state that saw the brunt of that attack is ready to enact a policy that will make it easier for other potential terrorists to get those documents. It is illogical, dangerous and potentially illegal.
Numerous polls have shown that the vast majority of New Yorkers are opposed to this plan. You would think the Governor would take those polls to heart and rethink his policy, but he has not. In fact, the poll results have only made him back his proposal that much more. That is no way to govern. It is time for the people of this great state to remind the Governor that you put him where he is today and he must be accountable to the will of the people.
Fortunately, my colleagues in the State Senate and I are listening to you and have already passed a bill blocking the Governor’s misguided proposal. Our bill would require applicants for a drivers license or non-driver identification card to submit a social security number. When a social security number cannot be provided, the applicant must demonstrate they are ineligible to get a number and provide satisfactory proof that the applicant's presence in the United States is authorized under federal law.
We’ve forwarded the bill onto the Assembly for their consideration, but we need your help. Click here to sign my e-petition and join the fight.
This is not a partisan issue, it’s an issue of right and wrong, and the Governor is dead wrong. Please join us in our fight to make New York State the best and safest state in the country.
