Lawn Litter Law Facts

• Thanks to widespread support from civic organizations and residents throughout Queens, Senator Padavan’s “Lawn Litter” Law has been enacted.

• The “Lawn Litter Law” allows residents of Queens and the City of New York to place a sign on their property to stop the incessant and unwanted literature and advertisements unscrupulously left on their property.

• The sign must state in at least one inch letters the following: Do Not Place Unsolicited Advertising Materials On This Property. The sign must be at least five inches tall and seven inches wide and placed in a conspicuous location on the homeowner’s property.

• This law imposes a civil penalty, between $250 and $1,000 on businesses that do not adhere to a sign posted by a resident.

• The “Lawn Litter Law” will help protect our quality of life, promote neighborhood cleanliness and security, increase our efforts to protect our environment and foster civic pride.
