Senator Marcellino Announces $100,000 Grant For Huntington

State Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R, Syosset), Chairman of the Senate Enviromental Conservation Committee, announced that the Town of Huntington will receive $100,000 as a result of a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU funding is intended to allow local communities to clean up and reuse brownfields.

"The Brownfield Legislation was a victory for all New Yorkers. However, what is important to remember is that the Brownfield Legislation impacted our own backyard. This program will make a real difference in the quality of life for the people of Huntington. I am proud to have delivered this legislation and funding to clean contaminated properties in our community while giving the Town of Huntington the tools it needs to remain economically viable," said Senator Marcellino.

The Town of Huntington in partnership with the Economic Development Corporation of Huntington, will use the $100,000 to complete a Pre-nomination Study for approximately a 640 area with 3 potential brownfield sites. The area know as the Huntington Station Transportation Hub consists of a collection of industrial storage facilities, underdeveloped and retail sites. Currently, the 3 brownfield sites are obstructing town planned improvements, as well as private sector redevelopment.

"Brownfields are environmental and public health threats that place heavy financial burdens on communities. The funding for Huntington will allow for the designation of up to 3 brownfield sites. After this step, our community will be able to create a plan to clean up these sites and ultimately create jobs and bring about a revitalization of our local economy," continued Senator Marcellino.

"With this agreement, we will finally see the brownfield legislation in full action. New York State will now be able to take those properties which served no one and were a drain on the localities across the State, and turn them into an economic gain for all our taxpayers," said Assemblyman Jim Conte.
