Senator Marcellino Announces $20,800 Grant For Hicksville

State Senator Carl L. Marcellino (R, Syosset), Chairman of the Senate Enviromental Conservation Committee, announced that Hicksville will receive $20,800 as a result of a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU funding is intended to allow local communities to clean up and reuse brownfields.

"The Brownfield Legislation was a victory for all New Yorkers. However, what is important to remember is that the Brownfield Legislation impacted our own backyard. This program will make a real difference in the quality of life for the people of Hicksville. I am proud to have delivered this legislation and funding to clean contaminated properties in our community, while giving Hicksville the tools it needs to remain economically viable," said Senator Marcellino.

Hicksville intends to use the funding to complete a Pre-nomination Study for an area along State Route 107 (South Broadway/Hicksville Road) that could have up to 10 potential brownfield sites. After the possible designation of the sites, the next step in the clean up of those sites could begin.

"Brownfields are environmental and public health threats that place heavy financial burdens on communities. The funding for Hicksville will allow for the designation of up to 10 brownfield sites. After this step, our community will be able to create a plan to clean up these sites and ultimately create jobs and bring about a revitalization of our local economy," continued Senator Marcellino.
