Senator Fuschillo And Assemblyman Mcdonough Help Postal Service "stamp Out Hunger"

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) and Assemblyman David G. McDonough (19th Assembly District) recently joined with the United States Postal Service to help "Stamp Out Hunger" by participating in the National Association of Letter Carriers’ (NALC) 13th annual food drive.

The NALC "Stamp Out Hunger" food drive is the nation’s largest one-day food drive. According to the United States Postal Service, almost 1,500 local NALC branches in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Virgin Islands collected food donations left by mailboxes and in Post Offices. The food is then delivered to local community food banks, pantries and shelters. Since its inception in 1993 the "Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive" has collected over half a billion pounds of food for Americans in need. On Long Island alone, the program gathered approximately 1.5 million pounds of food this year.

"The amount of work that our letter carriers put in to make this food drive a success is enormous, but their efforts certainly yield tremendous results. The donations that they collect help to replenish the resources of local food banks and pantries, ensuring that individuals who have fallen on hard times will not be forced to go hungry," said Senator Fuschillo. "I am proud to assist them in this very noble cause."
