Senator Fuschillo Announces Undertaking Of Intensive Litter Removal Program
Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District), a member of the Senate’s Transportation Committee, is announcing that the New York State Department of Transportation will be undertaking an intensive litter removal program on state roadways in both Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
"Keep Long Island Highways Clean Week", which will begin Monday, September 26th and run through Friday, September 30th, is an intensive effort to remove litter and debris from Long Island’s major highways and to encourage drivers to stop littering. During previous clean up weeks, the Department of Transportation removed between 65 and 80 tons of highway litter from the State roadways. Once the week is over, the Department will return to its routine maintenance clean up schedule, which is carried out on a continuous basis.
"Litter and debris on our roadways pose a danger to the safety of our drivers, and damage the aesthetic beauty of our parkways and other state roads. I applaud the Department of Transportation for undertaking this project, and encourage residents to do their part in keeping our roadways clean by not littering," said Senator Fuschillo.
