Senator Fuschillo congratulates winnerKelly Sonner

Senator Charles J. Fuschillo, Jr. (8th Senate District) recently congratulated Merrick Avenue Middle School students Danielle Brown and Kelly Sonner for winning statewide recognition in the New York State Senate’s 14th annual I*ma*GREEN*nation environmental contest.

"The purpose of this contest is to get students to think about the environmental challenges facing our community in a creative and original way," said Senator Fuschillo. "I am extremely proud of Danielle and Kelly, who worked very hard on their projects. Their work demonstrates to all of us the importance of environmental preservation and protection."

Danielle Brown achieved second place in the Division III (Grades 6-8) Literature Category for her project. Kelly Sonner’s "The Diary of a Lonely Piece of Paper" earned her third place in the Division III Literature Category.

The I*ma*GREEN*nation program is a statewide competition for school children in grades one through eight. The goal is to encourage children to develop an awareness of the environment and its resources. There are four different project categories in the program: Arts & Crafts, Science and Technology, Literature and Video. Danielle’s and Kelly’s projects, along with all the other entries, were put on public display at the State Capitol during a recent ceremony in Albany.
